i have a website which i am trying to organise running events and swimming events that will be organised and exibited speratly.

i mean that i want the runners to have a dedicated redevent system for running so they would not be exposed to the swimming events. the opposite goes to the swimmers.

Is it possible set up such a thing on one website?

I't possible by using the events category. In the modules and display you can filter by category.
So, for instance, you could make 2 different menu items. One for each category.

say i have two main categories- swimming & running and each has several subcategories.

where & how can i determine that when a user will click in the frontend on the top menu item called 'running' he will see a simple list with ONLY the running events? I dont want him to see the swimming events. and vice versa for the swimming...

You just make a menu item to the subcategory?
